Harvey Weinstein charged with rape and sexual assault

i24NEWS ·

Live from New York for i24NEWS, the day Harvey Weinstein turns himself in to police. It took "a little under eight months for the court of public opinion to turn into real justice", since the New Yorker and New York Times articles of October 5 and 6, 2017. On the rape and forced oral sex charges alone, the producer faces up to 54 years in prison, but he remains presumed innocent. After Bill Cosby's conviction a few weeks earlier, "American society is changing, and at an astonishing speed": real hope for victims of sexual assault and harassment, a sign that they are being heard. David Benaym explains why, in the vast majority of cases, such accusations rarely lead to convictions: no witnesses, no physical evidence, late complaints and the statute of limitations. Hence the turning point marked by MeToo and Balance ton porc, which are educating a whole generation. He also comes back to the surprise of the past 24 hours, praised by Ronan Farrow, the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who broke the story, the one-million-dollar bail, the echoes of the DSK affair, and the front page of the free daily Metro, "Time's Up".
